Clara Chong was born in Tokyo, raised in Sydney and trained in New York. Her career spans a variety of work across Drama, Documentaries, Music Videos and TV Commercials. In Documentaries she worked on the iconic feature “Baraka” and the documentary series “Sightings” for FOX & The Sci-Fi Channel, “Yo-Yo Ma: Inspired by Bach” for PBS. She has both written & directed “Oztrek” narrated by Jack Thompson for the National Geographic Channel, “From The Outback To The World: The Story of Qantas” for The History Channel, and the upcoming feature documentary “Wabi-Sabi: The perfection of an imperfect life”. Her film “Sugar Inc.”a visual tour de force set in a sensual futuristic world where a young desserts chef must prove her creative passion won the Best Visualisation Award at the Filmstock International Film Festival and was in official selection at Raindance, Santa Fe, Denver, Sydney Asia Pacific and the St. Kilda Film Festivals. Clara also wrote & directed the extreme widescreen sci-fi action adventure drama “Wild Squad Adventures” commissioned by Sydney’s world famous Taronga Zoo. Her introduction to music videos was filming on the streets of downtown Tokyo with Spike Jonze for Elastica’s “Car Song” music clip and she’s since directed for a variety of artists. Clara’s TV Commercials career over the last two decades has included major campaigns for Nestle, McDonalds, MG, Jenny Craig, Findus, McCormicks, Feltex, and Westpac Rescue Helicopters. She was featured in Campaign Screen’s New Director Showcase and has used her profile and experience as a trailblazing minority female director to promote and support equality and diversity in the industry. She was recently selected by the NSW State Government to design and direct their major campaign “A Place For Every Story” to promote the state to the global film industry. Clara has a long history of working equally well with experienced actors, celebrities, VIPs and ordinary people and is well respected for her ability to push the boundaries of technology in the service of the creative process including groundbreaking approaches to Previz for Directors and innovative post production workflows. She holds an A-Class Honours degree in International Relations from Macquarie University and is represented worldwide by Main Course Films.
